No. Your username is used to sign in to your account. You choose a character nickname in the game, and one account can have multiple characters.

Yes. Register with an email address you can access and follow the verification link before playing. Check your spam folder if the email does not arrive.

Create and verify your account, download the client and launch the game. Sign in, create a character, choose a server and channel, then join or create a room.
